An Hoang

Forest for Trees

May 5 – July 2, 2017

Press Release

Tracey Morgan Gallery is pleased to present Forest for Trees, New York based painter An Hoang’s first exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition is comprised of thirteen oil paintings ranging in size from 10 x 8 inches to 50 x 40 inches.

Hoang’s abstract paintings reference her fleeting memories of nature and the urban landscape, suggesting a felt experience. In Forest for Trees, Hoang’s canvases are enveloped in oils of smokey lavenders, chilled grays and luminous pinks, capturing the poetic wandering of our senses

Her intuitive marks are brushed and smeared on, scraped and wiped off, and built up in layers, until a lush surface reveals itself. The quiet harmonies of nature’s twilight colors are offset by flares of bold or vibrant color which lure the viewer into her mysterious and fluid abstractions. Evoking a tangible echo of memory, the spirit of the place within Hoang’s paintings feel specifically familiar yet their abstraction eludes any permanent intent.

Hoang’s work has been exhibited widely in New York, NY, Boston, MA, East Hampton, NY, Nashville, TN, and the Netherlands. Her work is included in several prominent private and public collections. The artist lives in Upstate New York and works in Brooklyn, NY.
