Biography

Hoang’s abstract paintings reference her fleeting memories of nature and the urban landscape, suggesting a felt experience. In Forest for Trees, Hoang’s canvases are enveloped in oils of smokey lavenders, chilled grays and luminous pinks, capturing the poetic wandering of our senses. Her intuitive marks are brushed and smeared on, scraped and wiped off, and built up in layers, until a lush surface reveals itself. The quiet harmonies of nature’s twilight colors are offset by flares of bold or vibrant color which lure the viewer into her mysterious and fluid abstractions. Evoking a tangible echo of memory, the spirit of the place within Hoang’s paintings feels specifically familiar yet their abstraction eludes any permanent intent.
