McNair Evans grew up in a small farming town in North Carolina and found photography while studying cultural anthropology at Davidson College, NC. His photographs explore an American cultural landscape ever changing by the forces of modernization and focus heavily on individuals impacted by these forces. His work presents personal, often autobiographical, subject matter in unconventional narrative form, and has been recognized for its metaphoric use of light and literary character. He is a 2016 Guggenheim Fellow.
